ECHAM5/MPIOM

A large number of ensemble simulations with realistic solar cycle forcing (1955-2006) have been carried out to study the influence of the 11-yr solar cycle on the stratosphere, troposphere and oceans.
  • uncoupled ensemble (9 members, T31L90)
    • codename: a2026, ensemble: 003-011, SSI: Lean et al.
  • coupled ensemble (11 members, T31L90/GR30L40)
    •  codename: c2026, ensemble: 003-011, SSI: Lean et al.
  • coupled ensemble with 2.5x stronger band 1 variation (3 members, T31L90/GR30L40)
    •  codename: c2030, ensemble: 003-011, SSI: Lean et al.
  • coupled ensemble with 2.5x stronger band 1 variation (15 members, T63L95/GR15L40)
    •  codename: c2031, ensemble: 001-015, SSI: Lean et al.
  • ensemble with a mixed layer ocean (10 members, T31L90)
    •  codename: m2027, ensemble: 001-010, SSI: Lean et al.
The first article from these simulations has been published as Misios and Schmidt (2012).

ECHAM5

How confident are we about the solar signals in reanalyses? Are they real or not? To address these questions I have carried out some simulations
  • ensemble forced with observed SSTs and SICs only form 1955-2006 (10 members, T31L90)
    • codename: a2039, ensemble: 001-010, forcing: HadISST
  • ensemble forced with observed SSTs, SICs and QBO from 1972-2006 (10 members, T31L90)
An article from these simulations has been published as Misios and Schmidt (2013).

Just for fun I conducted a AMIP-type simulation with the middle atmosphere version of ECHAM5 forced with observed boundary conditions from 1980 to 1999. The storage requirement of the raw files was impressive.

LOVECLIM

I have carried out simulations with the LOVECLIM model to investigate surface changes to the 11-yr solar cycle. Dedicated to examine lagged responses

  • ensemble forced by realistic TSI forcing from 1650 to 2008 (3 members).
    • codename lean, ensemble: 1-3, TSI: after Wang et al., reconstruction as used for the CMIP5 simulations (configuration file)
  • ensemble forced by 2x times amplified TSI forcing from 1650 to 2008 (3 members)
  •
What if the SUN dies out in one year? Just for fun? I have used the LOVECLIM and i set the TSI to zero.
